         Introducing Meerut College

 

Meerut College, Meerut was started in 1892. It is a prestigious institution of Northern India and is catering to the needs of students, both of urban and rural areas. It has rightly been said “GETTING ADMISSION IN MEERUT COLLEGE IS A MATTER OF PROUD”. Every year thousands of students strive hard for admission in this prestigious institution of India.

The college has a glorious history of achievements in academics and other fields. Personalities from Prime Minister, Governors, Ambassadors, Cabinet Ministers, Member's of Parliament, State Assemblies, Judges, innumerable Administrators – IAS, IFS, IRS, National Poets, Advocates, Social Workers, Scientists, leading Industrialist and Educationists have been students of this college. The institution has a important land mark in Meerut, of which the city is proud of. The College is situated in open and peaceful atmosphere, covering an area of 100 acres of land. The main campus of College is spread over an area of 50 acres, which has Academic Departments, Laboratories, Library, and Study Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University. Besides these, there are office of NCC and NSS, Medical Health centre, gymnasium, a stationary shop, a post office and branches of Punjab National Bank and United Commercial Bank. The College imparts education at the graduate and post graduate levels and has facilities for research in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education and Law.

There are 196 full time highly qualified faculty members. Besides these, there are more than100 part time teachers and approximately 750 research scholars’s pursuing research work for the award of Ph.D. Some of the faculty members have research collaboration/ awarded post doctoral fellowship in different universities in Germany, Japan, Czechoslovakia, England, Italy, Hungry, and USA etc. The College is accredited by National Assessment and accreditation Council, Bangalore. It has also been awarded status of COLLEGE WITH POTENTIAL FOR EXCELLENCE by University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

 
Introducing Meerut
 

Meerut has been a legendary city of cultural and spiritual importance all through the history of India. It is inhabited by people of heterogeneous castes and creeds. The first war of independence started from Meerut Cantt on 10th May’1857. The Meerut City is 65 km north of New Delhi. It is well connected by trains and bus service. The nearest airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. The famous Roman Catholic Church of Asia at Sardhana is about 20 km from Meerut. Hastinapur a famous centre of Jain Temples and pilgrimage is 36 km from Meerut city.

The region experiences extream climatic conditions. In summers (April-July) temperature goes upto 42.C and in winter (Nov - Feb) the temprature is about 4.C. The months of August and September experience heavy rains.
